Permanent Magnet Separators

OVERVIEW

Permanent Magnet Separators differ fundamentally from other magnetic separators and from conventional filters and strainers. The separating matrix is a stack of stainless steel grids magnetized by permanent magnets. Within a small compass hundreds or thousands of feet of grid edges divide and re-divide the stream so that all particles must pass through a succession of strongly convergent magnetic fields. Even the finest particles are attracted and securely held to the grid edges, where the magnetic force converges.  

Permanent Magnet Separators with grids magnetized by permanent magnets have distinct advantages:

  Permanent Magnet Separators remove even microscopic particles of iron, steel rust or scale.

  No element replacement – grids are virtually Indestructible under normal use; there are no disposable parts requiring constant replacement.

  Durability – service life is virtually unlimited, with little or no maintenance; there are no moving parts to wear out.

  Full flow, low pressure drop – FerroFilter Permanent Magnet Separators are high capacity separators designed for installation in the full flow, not in a by-pass.  A wide choice of designs provides effective removal of contaminants from fluids of virtually any viscosity, without clogging and with low pressure drop.

  Simple, compact, accessible – FerroFilter Permanent Magnet Separators fit easily into pipelines or can be bolted directly to equipment without piping, yet all parts are readily accessible for cleaning.

FOR LUBRICATION SYSTEMS

In oil-lubricated machinery, metal abrasive particles worn off moving parts circulate continuously through the lubrication system unless removed. Even microscopic particles too small to be removed by straining  accumulate and bridge the oil film. The resulting metal-to-metal contact causes wear and damage to bearings, gears and other moving parts.       

In internal combustion engines or other equipment operating at high temperatures, finely divided iron acts as a catalyst to induce oxidation of the oil.

By extracting ferrous particles, FerroFilter Permanent Magnet Separators prevent wear, retard degradation of the oil and hold it closer to its original condition. They do not remove additives.

Major manufacturers of heavy duty industrial equipment install FerroFilter Permanent Magnet Separators as OEM units to do the job of filtering pressure lubrication systems.

FOR PRODUCT PURITY

Permanent magnet FerroFilter Permanent Magnet Separators remove ferrous contaminants from fluids of all kinds; from low viscosity liquids to viscous slips and slurries. They are widely used in processing ink, paint, varnish, chemicals, hydrocarbons, solvents and many other products.      

FOR HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS 

Not only ferrous particles worn off moving parts, but also rust, scale and core sand accumulate in hydraulic systems.  They cause sticking and non-functioning of valves and wear out finely fitted components.        

Series PQ FerroFilter Permanent Magnet Separators are rated at 100 psi working pressure.  Because of their low pressure drop, they may often be installed in the suction side to protect the pump from abrasion.

FOR COOLANT SYSTEMS OF MACHINE TOOLS

FerroFilter Permanent Magnet Separators are installed in the coolant pipeline both before and after the pump (or in either location) to remove fine ferrous particles which fail to settle out in the sump. This improves the finish of the work, lengthens tool life, and increases production.
